The Australian Social Security

WELCOME TO MENFRANCO GENERAL BLOG. Today we will start posting a few posts about Australia, we will start with the drought issue that is affecting the farmers, and continue with other issues that affects the Australian public, and other world issues. 

The Australian Social Security, is called Centrelink  

Dear readers, this blog should have been written soon after these things happened, but I did not have to chance to publish them in blogger. So, I am publishing them now, a bit faster than other things happen hoping to catch up soon, and continue with what is happening now. We have already written three other posts belonging to our article in Hub Pages, Farming Today Is Still a Risky Business, but  let us continue this blog about, the Australian Social Security System. 

Today most governments have organized a social security system to help the people in need, but there are times when these systems fail to do what they are intended to do, or what we people believe they are supposed to do. So, in this article about "the Australian Social Security”, we start by writing, why the Australian Social Security System fails to help the farmers; then we will also discuss other things where they fail. But first let us discuss about the farmer, because as we have said in a previous article Farming Today Is Still a Risky Business, so, we want to work out, why the farmers don’t get social security payment from the government, like most other people do.

You see, today the Australian Social Security system is helping lots of people, but it is not helping the farmers, even though the farmers really need help from the government. Therefore, we want to discuss why this is happening, and then, we can suggest how to avoid this happening again. We believe that the Social Security system in Australia must help anybody that needs help, at least the name itself suggests that. So, we are going to investigate and talk about this issue.

Anyhow, our views are based on what is happening in Australia today, about farming and the drought, so, the first question is; why the Australian Social Security system has failed to help the farmers. We believe that the Australian Social Security can do better than what it is doing now. So, let us see why the Australian social security is failing to help the farmers.

Anyhow, we believe that the Australian Social Security system that we call Centrelink, has failed to help the farmers, because it has not been planned to help them from the beginning, as we will explain as we go on writing these articles. Anyhow, we are talking about the drought and the farmers that are having a very hard time, so, we were saying that all this hardship can be minimized, if aids from the Social Security System was more readily available to the farmers, but it is not, so, the only thing that we can think about this failure, is why the social security has failed to help? Because it is not fair for the farmers, so, the present Social Security System needs to be changed.

So, why the social security has failed to help? Once you ask that question and look for the reasons, you realize that in Australia not everybody is treated the same, from the current social security system. You see, people are treated different because they belong to different categories; there are: the-have and the-have-not; there are the workers that work for wages; there are the self-employed; there are the farmers, which we could say are self-employed, and others; anyhow, when people go to Centrelink the Social Security government agencies for help, the agencies do what they can according to where these groups of people belong, so, let us see some examples how this works.

How the Social Security works

Let us start from the working people; when people that work for a wage, become unemployed and they are not earning any money, they can go to Centrelink, where they can apply to receive the unemployment benefit from the government; this means that the government gives them some money, until they find another job to go to and can earn their living. This system is called Social Security unemployment benefits, or something like that, and it is good, it is like receiving a small wage to help you survive, so, it helps the workers when they don’t have a job and need financial help.

But the problem with this system is that all categories are not treated the same, which is not good. So, I believe that something needs to be done, to help anyone that needs help. You see, some categories may not receive help because they belong to a certain category, even if they earn no money and have no money, like the farmers today, this is the problem with the Social Security system of today.

You see, the farmers cannot turn to the government for help, because they are self-employed, and they are supposed to be rich, okay they are rich, because they own a lot of land, so, the assets test will exclude them from any government help; in this case there is no social security for the farmers. This is the reason why the social security system is failing the farmers, it is not set to help those people that cannot earn money even when they work hard, in the hope they can earn their living.

But I believe that these people must be helped, because they are the backbone of the Australian economy, therefore, we cannot afford to lose them, so, the Social Security system needs to be adjusted to help them, when they need help. They must be helped from the government, until the day that something else can replace the government help; like the collection of funds that we have suggested in our last article. Here we need also to say, that today farming is not regulated from the government, but some regulations may need to be placed; so that when things don’t work out, the government will be more willing to help the farmers.

Anyhow, we have worked out that today the farmers cannot be helped from Centrelink, because they are self-employed, and because they have too much property as assets. You see, the assets-test is the main problem here; but I believe that the assets-test in special cases should not override the income test completely, this suggestion does not apply only to the farmers, because the assets-test is also making life miserable to pensioners that own properties, when those properties cannot earn half the money the assets test believe they could.

So, in my views the assets test needs to be modified. Anyhow, we are going into details later, anyhow, it will become self-explained as we write more articles about it. We want to say now that there are issues that need to be fixed from the federal government. So, this farmer’s problem and the assets-test for pensioner, is going to be a real problem for the politicians, if they want to help the people that have voted for them at the elections.

 Let us look at the political reasons

Anyhow, I want to point it out to you, that in our previous articles we have started to talk about the farmers problems, but slowly we found ourselves to talk about assets-test and politics. Now, what is happening at the Australian federal government level is not right, they need to work better what the people need, and how the people are affected when they make their budgets, I believe that this is one of the reasons why Australia is having problems today, some of these political people that become treasurers are heartless and careless, they have made many mistakes that has affected the public adversely, some of these mistakes need to be fixed, the public is not going to forget easily what they have done, so, they are going to run the risk of losing their next elections, on this issue alone. But let us compare what is happening now to the past. I believe that in the past it was better, at least this is the way I have seen it happen.

Anyhow, in the past as far as I know there was no assets test in the seventies, it was introduced later to stop people that were abusing the system, also because the government needed more money. Now, let us try to see and discuss some of the reasons that apply today, which takes us to see that the federal government is greedy, because they want more money. So, here we need to look at who are the people that make these decisions.

Of course, they are the politicians that we send to Canberra parliament to govern us, since the government is formed from the political parties. Now it becomes evident that it is what these political parties represent, believe and preach that are going to make the future laws and budgets that parliament will pass, to govern Australia.

So, in our next blog, let us talk about the Australian politics, who represents who and to which party the group of people may belong and other things. Since this is a different issue that influences the outcome, we will talk about this in our next article the Australian political parties, where we will try to explain how we see them.

When people meet for the first time, they should know how to introduce themselves, so that they can have a conversation. It is very awkward when they cannot do that.  

After meeting introducing themselves and greeting each other people talk to each other and are happy, so, it is important to start the right way. Now let me explain my problems.

Now let me explain, during my life, I have noted that the greatest obstacle for people that have lived a withdrawn style of life, is that they don’t know how to introduce themselves; for this reason I have written this introduction. It gives the importance it deserves in real life, I know that there are a few different ways for introducing people, and some people use different ways of introducing people to each other, so, my introduction might not be the best, but it points out that it is necessary to know some forms of introduction.

You see most of us are not born with that presence of mind that automatically want to introduce ourselves, therefore, I believe that it is important that all children be thought and drilled, on how to introduce themselves properly from their parents and teachers. Not only in the way that I have done it above. But let the introductions be done in several other ways as it is supposed to be done in real life. So that the children will automatically be ready when a real introduction need to happen and they will feel secure of themselves. Otherwise, they will feel awkward and shy, and they will feel that they have put themselves in a disadvantaged position.

Now, I want to tell you how I feel, when I see the way that we behave. But to do that I need to ask you a friendly question; it is a question that anybody ask you out of politeness, and sometimes this question may take the place of a polite greening. But strange as it may seem, everybody gives the same answer to this question or greeting; and here is the proof of that.

And this question like a greeting can be: How are you? Or perhaps: How are you today?

And I am sure that you will answer; I am very well, thank you. Or perhaps you’ll say, I am well, or I am fine, or I feel great, or I feel as good as gold thanks very much.

And then just to be polite to me you’ll ask me back. And how are you today? (And then you’ll expect from me very much the same answers that you have given me.) I am very well, thank you. Or I am fine. I am as good as gold thanks. This seems to me unreal, so, I am going to write something hereunder about the ways that we behave, when we behave in an unrealistic way; so, let us talk about when we behave in a strange way; even if it can be the right thing to do.

Speaking for myself, the reality of life is that I find life has lots of ups and downs, and even if I don’t admit them to you, I feel them within myself. So, when you happen to ask me, ‘How are you?’ I may happen to be very much down, but, I will still answer you: I am very well, thank you! So, my dear readers, listeners or friends, there are no doubts about our behaviour that it is sometimes strange, and so, we should admit that the following most times is true.

We behave sometimes as if everything is indeed unreal, when we do say things that we do not mean or feel. And even when our own heart is hurt and cries in pains, we do turn to the world and pretending smile again, because we don’t want the world to see our pains. But all the efforts that we have made have been in vain. Because our heart still hurts and we still feel that pain.

I am sure that most of you will agree with me about what I have written above, because you may have been in a painful situation yourself, and therefore, you know and understand what I mean. But at the same time: What’s the use to pretend such a thing? When it is only pretence? Even if it has been able to make one feel better for a few moments, and one has been able to overcome the inner pains and has smiled just for a second. But, is all this pretence worthwhile, because you may be deceiving yourself.

But then it might be worthwhile, because we have been able to control ourselves and for a few moments we have felt well in the middle of those afflictions that are bugging us, but anyhow, every one of us does this his own way, because our lives are different to other people life and our story is different also, as we all know, every one of us has a story to tell.

As you can see, we sometimes behave in strange ways; my own judgement here is that, perhaps it might be worth behaving in such a deceitful way, not because we have been able to lie to ourselves, but because we have been able to control our own pains. And we have been able to live as well as we can.

What I have written above is part of my life story. So, let us go back to tell you the story of my life, because we are like everybody else and we have a story to tell.

Every man or woman has a story to tell

We are writing this article, as if there is a group of people willing to listen what we want to say. I hope that the way that you are living your life is good for you for your own sake, because life can be very boring up to the point where it may become painful. And here I must admit that I am in such painful position myself often. So, I feel so frustrated about my life that I ask myself. Oh my God! Why life has got to be so hard and boring for me these days? What have I done to deserve this? Why don’t I have the chance like everybody else to enjoy life as it should be enjoyed?

Therefore, I feel that life has not given me what by rights I should have deserved from it, and for that reason I can’t help thinking about life itself, and the ways that I am spending my life these days, together with the way that I have spent the earlier part of my life, so, I keep asking myself whether life has treated me the right way. Or should I have deserved a better life? I know that what I am saying here is lamenting and that is not a good thing to do, because it may upset other people, but that is the way I feel at the moment, so, I am sorry if I have upset you in any way.

I believe that lots of people of my age are going over their own lives like me, and they may be asking themselves; what is life all about? And whether life has treated them fair or not. So, they are looking back at the life that they have lived, and wonder if life has been good for them, and they may have the impression that: That part of life that they have lived now seems only a dream, a dream that has lasted for so many years, but now all those years have gone forever and they will never come back, so, all that is left of their lives is a story to tell, if they can find the time to tell their story.

So, every man and woman have a story to tell; no matter how unimportant it may seem, and how stupid and ridiculous it may sound, when they tell it to you. But, because it is their life story it is important to them, and they can’t change it because it is their true-life story. But if we listen to their true life story even if it is not much of a story, in the end it may bring up some good common sense, and we can learn something useful from their true story.

To come to this article conclusion, we should say; whatever are our lives stories and whatever pains we have been through during your life, we must try to overcome our inner pains, if we are going to live a better life. Therefore, we have to try to turn negative things into positive thinking that is the only way to go about and try to live a better life in the future.

This is all that we want to say in this article, and we hope that we have been able to explain some of our points of view. Anyhow, let me go back to tell you my life story, in next article; my farm life continues.

Turning negative into positive

WELCOME TO MENFRANCO GENERAL BLOG. Today we are going back to write a few blogs about our lives, we will postpone our blogs about Australia economy, but we will come back soon.

Dear readers, I have said in our previous article, I am going to turn negative happening into positive thinking; now, to turn negative happening into positive thinking, we must go through a process of many stages, I have gone through most of this process and I continue to go through.

Anyhow, I believe that this article may not be in the right place of my life story writings, because I am breaking my life story in half. Now, this article is going to be a bit jumpy, I hope that you do not mind, because in this article I will be talking about the ways that we sometimes behave, since my life experience has thought me that painful part.

Now, let me break away from my farm life story, and their negative thinking that they have left within my mind; we will return to write about that later; since this article is between the past and the present time, therefore, I want to tell you how I have felt during my life. You see, even today my inner self wants to cry out aloud and say, why this had to happen to me and my family.

But then I think that to cry over past events will not help, therefore, today I am going to express myself with the knowledge that I have painfully acquired later in my life. Because I want to throw away my shyness forever and never look back at those drawbacks that I had early in my life. Therefore, I want to break away from the past forever; I want to introduce myself to the world and say with a loud voice, what I need to say. So, I am going to turn those negative experiences into positive thinking; I am introducing myself to the world and say, “hello my world” and try to fit in with other people as well. It is going to be a bumpy ride.

Introducing myself to the world

Dear readers, what I am going to write next will sound ridiculous, because this is not what happens in real life; however, this is one of my imaginary ways of how I can break free from my boring and shy life that I have lived in the past, I know that this way is going to be strange; but let us leave behind these negative thoughts and be positive; so, let me introduce myself to the world.

HELLO MY WORLD! HERE I COME TO YOU WITH OPEN ARMS.

Hello world! Hello life! Hello everybody!

Hello, to the imaginary people that I am going to talk to in this article. So, I hope that you would listen to me and be my friends, you see, I want to be friendly with you people, since we all live in this same world, you see, we are here and we try to live the best way we can, our earthly life.

So, I hope that you are willing to be my friend, since I am a lonely man; I am asking you to be my friends, because it seems to me that you are good people and look friendly to me; anyhow, I hope you are good friendly people. So, may I ask, if I can have the pleasure of your company?

I know that what I am saying may not make sense to you, because friendship just happens, and I know that I need to learn how to be friendly with people. So, I must learn how to introduce myself and other things. You see, I have lived my live in an isolated place, so, I will make mistakes, while I am trying to say something that is important.

Anyhow, I hope that you don’t mind me if I ask some questions, because they are important to me, I hope also that you don’t mind me personally, as I am keen to be your friend, so, in my own strange ways, I would like to meet you, or at least those that are thinking that they can be friend with me. Since I want to share some of my time with you, and some of my personal views.

So, you see, I am a shy man and I don’t like to be a show off or anything like that, but because today I have made up my mind to be a different man, and want to be a man of the world; I am going to make a great effort to achieve that.

Now, because this is the first time that I have met you, I would like to introduce myself and make your acquaintance personally, this is one of those things that I have learned lately, one needs to know how to introduce oneself easily; so, let us do that and let us see and practise how to introduce ourselves politely today and take a look how it was done in the bygone days, just to compare the difference.

Anyhow, we are talking to a group of imaginary people, so I say: I would like to shake your hand to each one of you, and while I am shaking your hand, I say, pleased to meet you, or “How do you do”, this is one form of introduction but there are many others. So, to Mr Y. or X. and no matter who you are; when we were introduced to other people or we introduced yourselves we said; “How do you do!” And then, in order to be polite to each and every one of us, we used to bend low and say again, “How do you do!” and “How do you do!” again. This is how it was done in the good old bygone days.

Now, let me to introduce myself in a modern and simple way.

Hello, my name is, “Francesco Menchise” and I am from Brisbane Australia; while I am doing this introduction, if I am close enough to the person that I am introducing myself I would put my right hand forward ready to shake hand it the other person accept my hand shake; here the other person is supposed to also extend his hand and accept my hand shake, while shaking hand the other person is supposed to say pleased to meet you, followed by his name (John West?) so, he is also introducing himself at the same time, and then I could say the pleasure is mine and talk about whatever is necessary.

Just to say something, I might say, my name is Francesco Menchise, but everybody here calls me Frank, and Frank sounds good and friendly to me, and it is easy to say; so, just call me Frank and let it be, as it will be easy for you and me.

Now that I have introduced myself in a modern and mannerly way, let me go back to talk as if I am talking to a group of people: May I ask you your names please? So, that you can also introduce yourself, and then we can be friends; I’d like to shake your hand to each one of you, and while I shake your hands I will say, “I am pleased to meet you!” You may answer me, “I am pleased to meet you too.” Or if you wish you may say, “The pleasure is mine.” This is how most of the introductions finish, but it is useful to do them properly. 

I believe that this blog is long enough, so we need to stop now.

Blog No: 3. From our article in Hub Pages, Farming Today Is Still a Risky Business

Farmer are lonely place, and when there is a drought it is even worse 

Dear readers, this is the 3rd post about farming in Australia, so, to understand what we are saying you need to read our previous two posts. Anyhow,Today the most important thing that the farmers must do is think how they can survive the drought, or anything else that puts their livelihood at risk. Here we must admit that most of the farmers are good at doing that, because farmers are practical people, but that may not be enough, to save all of them, as we can see from what is happening today. Therefore, we must think about a helping solution. Here we suggest that an organization that collect things from the farmers, when farming is doing well must be created, this is where the government can step in, by setting up a collective organization, which for instance collect every year a portion of the farms produce, or even some money when they are doing well, before taxing them to collect their tax. Then this government organization, will keep this tax-free reserve of food and money in reserve; which then, it can be freely distributed, when it becomes necessary to help those farmers in need.

Well this only a suggestion that we have written here. But this thing is not even new; we are all familiar with the story in the Bible, when the Pharaoh of Egypt dreamed about the seven fat cows that then were devoured by the seven skinny cows. Joseph interpreted the dream that in the land of Egypt, there were going to be seven years of plenty, followed by seven years of famine. The Pharaoh got Joseph to organize a collection in the years of plenty, to be distributed on the years of famine, and thus Egypt survived the years of famine.

What happened in Egypt was a long time ago, and the earth seasons then were more regular than today, because they did not have global warming to deal with, this global warming is an extra problem that we have created ourselves, so, today and in the future, we must create things that can overcome this global warming problem. Meanwhile, we must be careful what we do; perhaps we should create more social security for everyone including the farmers. Now, let us talk about our present farming and other problems that we are having today. 

Australia is having problems

Anyhow, today what we want from the government cannot happen; because of what has happened in Canberra recently; since the federal government has had political problems; so, on the 24 of August 2018 they have replaced the Prime Minister; now the new PM. is Scott Morison, but he needs still to choose the other ministers and then swear them in, before they can talk about anything else. Anyhow, we can say here that today Australia is still the lucky country, because there are people that donate things, when people are in need; so, the farmer get some help that way. Thanks God for that!

Anyhow, meanwhile the farmers are praying for rain and praying that the people in Canberra will remember them, and then, do something about helping the farmers. Because, farming is a risky business even today, when things are easier to organize, for this reason, we need to look at the Australian security system to see who is responsible and what can be done.

I think I have said enough in this article, see you in our next article, where we will discuss about the Australian social security system that today is failing the farmers, but not only the farmers, because there are other people that can be served better. We believe that Australia can do better, if the Australian government can organize the resource better.
